mardis-gras-animation2.gifOn Saturday, February 18, 2012, the Crown Jewels Chapter of The Links, Incorporated will hold its 8th Annual Mardi Gras Gala fundraiser. The event will be held at the The Westin Hotel located at 601 South College Street, downtown Charlotte, NC  from 8 p.m. – 12:00 a.m. Semi-Formal attire is requested. We view our organization as a vital “link” to helping improve our community, and especially in assisting our young people in achieving academic success and infusing them with excitement, joy, and love for the arts and cultural activities.  The cost for admission is $100.00 per ticket* and a percentage of the proceeds from the Mardi Gras Fundraiser supports scholarships and educational advancement, as well as national and international community outreach programs.

president.jpgGreetings,

I am delighted to welcome members and friends to the website of The Crown Jewels Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. Our site was designed with you in mind. We hope to give you an overview of our chapter's mission, history and service in our community. Founded in 1946, The Links, Inc. is an international organization of over 12,000 civic-minded women who are committed to friendship and service. The Crown Jewels Chapter is a local chapter of friends linked to change lives and serve others in our community. Our members live in Mecklenburg County in the metro Charlotte area of North Carolina.

In partnership with the Afro American Cultural Center, an African American museum of culture, art and heritage, the Crown Jewels Arts Facet refurbished and decorated a circa 1940's "Shotgun" house. The house is now a living historical museum in which visitors enjoy with a guided tour. Chapter members donated and loaned many of the antique furnishings now in the house.

The Crown Jewels initiated a signature fundraising event, "The Crown Jewels Mardi Gras" which is held each year during Mardi Gras season. In addition, Crown Jewels co-sponsored the Southern Area HBCU Scholarship Initiative featuring international singing legend Nancy Wilson. The Crown Jewels continue to make donations to many Charlotte area charities including the YMCA, Afro American Cultural Center, Regional Aids Interfaith Network and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.

It is our pleasure to share with you who we are and what we do to serve members of our community. Thank you for your interest.

With Sisterly Affection,
Joy Paige, Chapter President
